Traditional tavern like there are few left in the center of Madrid. The place is named after the number and the street where it is located, El dos de Sagasta, very close to the Bilbao metro. Its façade, decorated in red tones, as is characteristic of almost all taverns of this type. A marble counter, covered by a tin bar, low wooden tables, some stools, impeccable white tiles and walls full of images from the past, some with a touch of kitsch like the portrait of the mayor of our city in the 1970s. nineties: José María Álvarez del Manzano. There are times when the most modern is also the oldest. This is what happens with this tavern, founded in 1880, with an iconic red façade, and which reopens its doors (on Sagasta, 2, of course) after a closure that made many of us predict the worst. Its previous owners, the charismatic Alfonso and Araceli, retired and the person in charge of taking over has been the young Fernando Sanjaime who has made the (correct) decision to leave the charming interior intact and greatly enhance the kitchen, of which Now there are various tortillas - zucchini, black pudding... - or Pavia soldiers. The reliable proof that any past time was not always better.
